From the Principal

April, 2017

Greetings! Hard to believe, but spring has finally arrived! I know the students (and teachersJ) are really enjoying regular outside recess and warmer temps. This is also the time of year when we start to get very busy! Here are some important items this month:

Spring NWEA and MSTEP Testing
Beginning on Monday, April 10th we will start our spring round of testing. For NWEA testing Kindergarten and 1st Grade will be assessed on reading and math. Second grade students are assessed on reading, math, and language arts. 3rd-6th grade students are assessed on reading, math, language arts, and science. For MSTEP, 3rd grade is assessed on math and language arts. Fourth grade is assessed on math, language arts, and science. 5th grade will be assessed on math, language arts, and social studies.  As you can see this is A LOT of testing. We are doing our best to space out the tests to prevent fatigue. For a specific testing schedule for your child’s grade/classroom, please check with the teacher.

PTO Meeting
The next PTO meeting is on April 18th at 6pm in the lower el library. Child care is provided. We will be discussing field day and officer elections. Join us if you can!

Open House
Our next open house is scheduled for 4/20, from 5-6pm. We are enrolling all grades K-7 for Fall 2017!

4th & 5th Grade Advanced Music
This semester many of our 4th and 5th graders have participated in an advanced music class taught by WMU students. These lessons will culminate in a performance on 4/21 at Dalton Recital Hall on WMU’s campus. Performing students and their parents should arrive no later than 5:30pm. All students and OA families are invited though to attend this free performance!

Science Fair
Our annual, non-competitive, science fair will be held on April 25, from 4:30-6:00pm. Student projects will be displayed in both buildings and additionally the book fair will be open in the lower el. Students can arrive starting at 4:15pm, please do not arrive before this time as teachers are in a meeting. Students should set up their project/display in their classroom. We look forward to seeing all the great projects from our students!

As always I can be contacted with questions or concerns by email sboris@fbrcs.org, or by phone here at school.

Thank You,
