Welcome to Fifth Grade!
I am looking forward to a wonderful year of academic growth and fun-filled times together!
I am beginning my 25th year of teaching. I am fortunate to have a double major of Elementary Education and Art Education. I have taught 3rd, 4th, 5th grades, Art and Music K-8 at two schools in Kalamazoo. This is my third year at OA.
My husband and I live in Richland and have three adult sons whom are out of the house. We enjoy spending time with our children, grand children, swimming in our pool, camping, and traveling to the Upper Peninsula. We also have two fur baby dogs, Daisi Mae and Dotti Rose.
My teaching philosophy is simple. Each and every child who walks into the classroom is a special individual with different academic talents, needs, and strengths. Each child will contribute something unique to our classroom throughout the year, because they are all different. I tell my students, “If everyone was the same, the world would be a boring place.” It is my goal to ensure that everyone treats each other with respect and kindness throughout every part of our day.
Fifth grade is a huge year of academic, physical, and emotional growth. The students are preparing for middle school next year. Independence, responsibility, and social interaction skills will be expected.
Home and school are a team in the education of your child. Communication can be made through the planner every day and through my voice mail at Oakland Academy. (269) 324-8951 ext. 17.
Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend! See you Tuesday!
