From the Principal

September 15, 2017

*Friendly reminder: In the mornings when dropping your child off and afternoons when picking them up, please remain in your vehicle and pull through the circle with traffic. If someone is picking up your child(ren) for you, please remind them as well. We will help your child get out of or into the car. This helps with traffic flow and keeps everyone out of harm’s way. If you need to get out of the car to come into the building, please park in the side lot. Sometimes CDC parents park in the circle during pick up or drop off, so if you see an empty car please pull forward around it. Thank you!

*We Love Our Charter School! If you do too, free blue yard signs are available near the front entrance. This is a simple and effective way to support your child’s school. Help spread the word—our school rocks!!

*Fall NWEA testing tentatively begins the week of September 18th. Fall testing scores will be used as a baseline to measure growth from when we do winter testing in January, and spring testing in May. It would help greatly to make sure your student gets a good night’s sleep, has a healthy breakfast each day, and arrives on time. Thank you!

*PTO Meeting UPDATE!! Our first PTO meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 20th at 3:45pm. Please join us to meet our PTO board and discuss upcoming events and projects.

*YMCA Gym begins soon! Students will go to the YMCA gym starting at the end of September, depending on how their construction remodel is going. K/1st graders go Fridays, 2nd graders go Wednesdays, 3rd/4th graders go Tuesdays, and 5/6/7th graders go Thursdays. Please be sure that your child has gym shoes at school; these need to be different from what they wear to school. They don’t need to be new shoes, just clean and dry. Gym shoes can be stored in cubbies at school. This will be especially important as the weather changes this fall.

*Kalamazoo Public Library trips: Evergreen makes regular trips to the KPL for checking out books, story time, and learning library skills. These field trips are scheduled by individual teachers, so please see your child’s teacher with questions. Scheduled dates and chaperone sign-up forms are coming home soon!

*Fundraising projects! This year we will be collecting Campbell’s soup labels, Box Tops for Education, and Coke Rewards (codes from boxes and caps from bottles). Please send any of these you have to school with your child in a bag. We will also be doing a regular can/bottle drive every Friday before and after school. Simply save clean bottles and cans and you can drop them off at drop off/pick up. We will also be doing two Pajama Party Parent’s Night Out events. Proceeds will go to the library fund and classroom projects—thank you for your support!

 Thank you for your cooperation and help in getting us off to a great start this school year. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to stop by and see us in the office. Have a fabulous weekend

Sincerely,
Principal
