May/June 2017

Dear Augusta Academy Families,

There will be no school on Monday, May 29 due to Memorial Day.

We will be attending the Battle Creek Bombers Baseball game on Tuesday, June 6 at 10:00am for fun activities with a game time of 11:00am.

Our last day of school will be Wednesday, June 14.

Spring Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA):
All students did well with their Spring NWEA testing.  I could not be more proud of all of their hard work throughout the school year!

School hours are 8:20am-3:30pm.  Students should be dropped off between 8:00 and 8:15am.  It is critical that your child be in school every day, on time, unless they are ill.

Smoking on school property is still prohibited at all times.  This comes directly from the student handbook and we appreciate your help with this in order to create a safe and positive environment for our students, staff and families.

Open House:
On Thursday, May 4 we will be having another Open House from 3:30 until 6:00pm.  Help us spread the word!  If you know of anyone who has a child who will be in Kindergarten thru Fifth grade in the fall of 2017, please send them our way.  There will be a bounce house and cotton candy!

Students in third grade will be taking MSTEP tests during the month of May.  Third graders in Michigan are tested in Math and Reading.  This will be their first experience with MSTEP, which replaces MEAP testing, that we may all remember as children.  I know I do!  MSTEP is done on the computers whereas I recall MEAP being paper/pencil and filling in bubbles on multiple choice answers.  MSTEP requires typing on the ELA/Reading portion, so any extra practice at home with keyboarding skills will help your child be prepared.

Summer Activity Packets:
Summer Activity Workbooks will be sent home with all students in an effort to help prevent some of the summer learning loss that is inevitable with children.  There will be a checkpoint held at Augusta Academy on Wednesday, July 19, 4:00 – 6:00pm.  If your child completes roughly half of their workbook by this date, please bring them to Augusta Academy for a treat and to visit with staff.  Students who return their entire completed workbook by the first day of school, Tuesday, September 5 will also receive something else from me!

As always, if you have questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me here at school at 269-731-5454.
